三车

(三車, 三车)

triyāna. [lang id =1028]三乘 or [lang id =1028]三乘法門

(1) The three vehicles across (sa) saṃsāra into nirvāṇa, i.e. the carts offered by the father in the <Lotus Sutra> to lure his children out of the burning house: (a) goat carts, representing (sa) śrāvakas; (b) deer carts, pratyekabuddhas; (c) bullock carts, bodhisattvas.

(2) The three principal schools of Buddhism-- Hīnayāna, Madhyamayāna, Mahāyāna.
